There are no episodes to play in offline mode?

You must download episode files from the iPhone App software while an Internet connection is present in order to play the episodes while your device is in ‘offline’ mode. See the explanation below about using the App’s ‘Star’ feature.

How does the iPhone App software’s “Star” feature work?

Add or Download

Episode Download In-Progress

STARRED EPISODE

OFFLINE EPISODES

Here’s an explanation of the App software’s ’star’ feature: By clicking the ’star’ icon to the left of an episode’s title when viewing the episode list, the user can either ‘add’ an episode, or ‘download’ the episode. If the user clicks ‘add,’ the selected episode will be added to the ’starred’ list of episodes. You can click the ’starred’ button when viewing the App’s list of episodes to view the list of episodes that have been ’starred’ by the user (it’s like a ‘favorites’ list). If the user clicks ‘download,’ the selected episode will be downloaded and stored directly in the App software. (Once an episode file has been downloaded successfully, the episode’s ’star’ icon will display with a circle around it.)

To access downloaded episodes, your device must be disconnected from any available networks (in ‘offline’ mode or ‘airplane’ mode). When the App software is started while a user’s device is in offline mode, the user will be presented with a list of the episodes that have already been downloaded. Then the episodes can be selected and played.

However — if a user’s device is connected to any available network, the App software will begin to stream the episode by default, even if the episode has already been ’starred,’ downloaded and stored in the App software. So you must be in offline mode in order to play a downloaded episode through the App software.

How can I play an episode and see the episode’s description in the App at the same time?

Open the iPhone App software and select an episode from the episode list. Then click the ‘extras’ button in the top right-hand corner and click the ‘background play’ button. This will close the iPhone App software and load the selected episode file in Safari. Once the episode file begins to play, click the ‘home’ button on your device (the device’s main button). The episode file will continue to play in Safari in the background, and you can then re-open the iPhone App software and select the episode again to view its show notes.
